About Us

PHPC is a medium-sized club of around 40-50 members. Our members range in skill from enthusiastic novices to experienced photographers. The club has a few members who are judges.

We have a number of members who run the mentoring program for our newer members to learn the capabilities of their camera(s). We are large enough to support the growth of members but small enough to be a community, where all members can know each other. The club is here to challenge us to get the best from ourselves and our cameras

2021 Calendar

The PHPC Calendar for 2021 is now available on our website on the Club Rules and Documents page.  The electronic calendar has also been updated.

We have a very busy year ahead! The calendar includes a list of photographic competitions, their topics and their definitions.  The presentations and outings have dates – some of the details are still being worked on by the Committee and will be announced in due course.

Note: The electronic calendar is on the left pane of our website’s home page.  There is a link (a WiFi symbol that says “Add”) that presents a drop-down list with options to import or link the calendar to your personal electronic calendar.  Once linked, any changes we make should be automatically updated in your personal electronic calendar.

The Competition Rules for 2021 have also been published.

The Club Rules and Documents page will also include the final 2020 competition points table, and links to the awards night photos at a later date.

Architectural Photography

Competition 05 this year (2020) will have the set only topic of Architecture.

PHPC members (and photographers in general) may be inspired by an exhibition currently showing at the Museum of Sydney until the 26th April 2020.

John Gollings: The History of the Built World

“John Gollings AM is Australia’s pre-eminent photographer of the built environment. For more than 50 years, he has combined his interests in photography and architecture to capture the cultural construction of social spaces, from images of sacred rock art sites and ancient temples to commissioned shots of suburban dream homes and monuments of cultural and corporate architecture.”

Gollings: The History of the Built World is the first major survey of this renowned photographer’s practice and career. Originally developed by the Monash Gallery of Art, the exhibition showcases 65 photographic works spanning Gollings’s extensive portfolio, including images that capture the ruins of abandoned cities, iconic modernist buildings, and the most recent architectural additions to our cityscapes. The retrospective provides a remarkable visual history of human habitats, both at home and abroad.”

Please feel free to pass on to anyone else who may be interested.
Thanks, Tony Egan

Slow PHO Photographic Exhibition

We have received information regarding the second exhibition (you may remember Photographic Alchemy) put together by a group of passionate photographers who use the historical processes of photography to meld a unique approach to image-making.  If that is not enough of an inducement, there will be live music at the opening event…and cheese.

Please RSVP Sue Buchanan at sbuchan1@bigpond.net.au if planning to attend the opening event. More information at https://www.nebuliarts.com/

Monday Night Meeting 5th August is an Outing – Long Exposure and Painting with Light

This is a practical evening looking at long exposures and light painting.

Where: Brooklyn NSW – see below on how to get there.

Meeting at Parsley Bay Boat Ramp – George St Brooklyn at 6.30pm

  • Brooklyn Cemetery
  • Helicopter Pad for Star Trails
  • Other options – Hawkesbury River Bridge can be photographed from the Estuary Restaurant and Deerubban Boat Ramp or on the Old Pacific Highway Bridge, Brooklyn Railway Station, and Brooklyn Oval for boardwalk and mangroves.

Date: 5th August 2019

Time: Evening from 6.30pm

What to Bring:

  • Camera – that can take 30 second exposure
  • Remote shutter – if you have one
  • Tripod – necessary
  • Torch – if you have one for seeing your camera settings in the dark and for light painting
  • If you have any props you think might be useful bring them along.

How to get there:

  • Take the M1 Freeway over the Hawksbury River and take the  Hawksbury River exit.
  • Follow this straight through the roundabout and turn right at the T intersection
  • Go over the old bridge and take the 2nd turn left
  • Follow the road until you come to the pub on the right
  • Turn right and follow this around till you see the boat ramp parking.

We will meet near the water.

For a map of the area click here  https://goo.gl/maps/2UkmdWeWeNXiZDhZ6

Safety is important as the ground is uneven. Wear warm clothing and enclosed shoes and bring water or hot tea/coffee.

Also please be aware of others around you and ask if it is ok to turn on a torch so you don’t ruin others’ photos.

The backup plan if weather is storming/raining is that we will meet at the church hall in Pennant Hills.

Kind regards

Nancy Morley
