About Us

PHPC is a medium-sized club of around 40-50 members. Our members range in skill from enthusiastic novices to experienced photographers. The club has a few members who are judges.

We have a number of members who run the mentoring program for our newer members to learn the capabilities of their camera(s). We are large enough to support the growth of members but small enough to be a community, where all members can know each other. The club is here to challenge us to get the best from ourselves and our cameras

Minimalism Presentation and Workshop, Monday 3rd April

In preparation for our Competition 4 Set Subject Minimalism on the 15th May we are having a presentation and workshop, this Monday night, 3rd April at 7.45pm at Pennant Hills.

The Minimalism presentation has been put together by Don Monroe for the exclusive use of the NSW Federation of Camera Clubs and will be presented by Janne.

This very informative presentation provides an excellent understanding of the different types of Minimalism with many amazing examples, some of which you will probably recognise.

The second half is a practical workshop where you will get the opportunity to put the presentation into practice.

For this you will need to bring along a camera of any type, including mobile phone cameras.

Looking forward to seeing you on Monday night for this informative and fun presentation.

Making a Great Travel Book with Peter Eastway

As part of the members only “Learn” program, the APS is running a free on-line workshop for Members Only on Tuesday 4th April at 7pm on how To Make a Great Travel Book. Many of us probably have many photobooks that we have already made. Each of us with their own style. But, there is always something new to learn from other people’s expertise and knowledge.

Whether you want to enter the APS Photo Book Awards or just create a masterpiece for personal use, Peter Eastway’s Zoom talk on ‘Making A Great Travel Photo Book’ will take you step by step through the book production process, including options that don’t require specialist knowledge of complicated design programs.

Peter is the editor of Better Photography Magazine, a professional photographer for too many years for him to remember, and a two-times winner of the AIPP’s Photo Book of the Year Award. You can check out his current book, The New Tradition (a travel book with a difference) on his website (www.betterphotography.com/online-shop/new-trad-book).

Here is the link. You will need to log in to your APS account.

Webinar and Fullday Print Workshops – Robin & Tim Moon

Some of you may remember meeting the very talented Robin Moon at a presentation at our club. She has asked us to share that she has a free webinar available. Also, Robin and Tim are running some very interesting fullday workshops. These are not club events.

1.   Free Webinar.   – Following on from her trips into Antarctica last Nov/Dec as the Photography Program Ambassador for Sony and Intrepid Travel, Robin is running a free webinar to share her experiences in this technically challenging environment .

This can be booked through Sony Scene – Antarctica

Tim and Robin also have some upcoming workshops : –

 2. Print Workshops . Our  full day print workshops are very popular. We are well supported by Sony and Epson and PixelOne products  to run these workshops.

Participants  will be attending a sunrise  shoot with the ability to

  • try out Sony cameras and lenses free of charge with no obligation.
  • try Nisi filters and
  • Explorer tripods.
  • Atoll camera support ( replaces the L bracket – super friendly to handle )
  • long exposure photography education

        Skill set education will  include:

  • learning how to edit their pictures for print preparation;
  • demystifying sizing of image and final print requirements,
  • Understanding the workflow between computer and printer
  • Why printer drivers are so important
  • paper choice – why it makes a big difference.
  • We will work in Lightroom Classic and Photoshop.
  • take home a framed A3 print at the end of day ready to hang.  Print from the sunrise shoot or choose another of your favourites to work on.

We have  workshop availability on  15th April on the Central Coast NSW and  2nd September in Sydney.  Book either through SonyScene  or through our website Wanderlust Imagery.  $285pp

Regards

STEVE McCURRY ‘ICONS’ EXHIBITION

Back in the mid 1980’s I used to subscribe to National Geographic. I will never forget opening the envelope with the edition that featured Steve McCurry’s ‘Afghan Girl’. If any one photograph inspired me into the world of photography it was that photograph. That one image captured the harsh reality of Sharbat Gula’s life in an refugee camp on the Afghan-Pakistan Border. I kept the magazine for about 20 years and finally (perhaps foolishly) threw it out whilst moving homes.

Steve McCurry went on to become one of the world’s most renowned photographers and has worked for many decades photographing the human element of conflicts, vanishing cultures, ancient traditions and much more.

His ‘ICONS’ exhibition of over 100 large-format photographs taken over the last 30 years is coming to Sydney from April 12, at Pier 2/3, Walsh Bay, Sydney.

Follow the link below for session times, cost etc.
