‘Being Creative in Camera’ by Barbara Bryan AFIAP, FAPS.
My main bodies of work have featured the alpine regions and snowgums plus aspects of the Outback regions but working on themes and series turns me on much more than the single image these days, so I have various series in progress at any one time with one ongoing for the past 20 years (star trail exposures in the outback regions) which still requires use of negative film for best results! Working digitally has been a big change from many years of film use but so much more convenient in most ways. However, I occasionally revert to using some film in my 645 camera!
One way I gave back to the photography club movement is by encouraging others to be creative in their thinking so I show audio visual presentations and prints to illustrate works I have created. Encouraging others to be Creative and seeing some inspired by this was very rewarding. Participation in numerous APS Contemporary Division Apscon themes offers an extra challenge to think and step out once again. My most recent involvement was to show a series in the CD exhibition at Apscon in Forster (Oct 2017).
I also have a theme of ‘My foot in the landscape’ where I feature my left foot on the earth/ground in whatever countries or places I visit on bigger trips! This is also a novel way to record where I have been…. so to speak. Of course, I also give back by doing competition judging also (since 2002).
Since 2002 I have been involved with the Primrose Park Photography Club in Cremorne, which does not have any competitions so is much more focused on sharing, learning and helping each other in enjoying the art of photography, (and I have been a committee member there too).
Over many years I have also entered Regional art photography prizes and exhibited in group shows at galleries and art fairs etc, resulting in numerous awards and purchases for collections. My photos hang in private homes in nine different countries!
