Presentation – ‘How to Make Your Photos Stand Out From the Crowd’ with Malcolm Fackender – freelance photographer, mentor and tour leader. @ TBA
Sep 7 @ 7:45 pm – 10:00 pm

Malcolm Fackender is an Australian award winning travel photographer who specialises in small group photographic tours. Malcolm has been involved with and successful at photography since a young teenager, winning a Gold Medal in 1985 at the age of seventeen. Initially, Malcolm had a strong interest in macro and bird photography, but more recently developed a strong interest in travel photography, where he has broadened his photographic interests to cover many other genres.

Through his company Spotlight on Asia, and with the assistance of local and international travel agencies, Malcolm has successfully planned, arranged and led 63 small group photographic tours to Asia, Africa, Europe and South America. Being passionate about photography, travel and just being around and inspiring fellow photographers, Malcolm intends to build his business to include many more countries in the years to come.

Having been involved with Photographic clubs in Sydney and New South Wales for over 30 yrs, Malcolm is always eager to share his knowledge with the members of clubs as well as any other photographers and clients. Malcolm regularly conducts educational and inspirational photographic talks at various photographic clubs and has recently incorporated workshops into his business. Malcolm actually gets much more joy out of inspiring and teaching people than receiving any competition awards. For him, there is no greater joy than seeing or hearing about the successes that past clients have with images taken on one of his tours. This is one of the main reasons clients are happy to continue travelling with Spotlight on Asia whenever a new destination is released. In addition to introducing new exciting destinations, Malcolm always freely gives advice on photographic equipment and technique.

Personally, Malcolm enjoys taking photographs and extending himself wherever possible. He believes that photography is a cycle of continuous improvement from a technical, hardware and creative perspective and as such looks forward to growing and extending his portfolio for many years to come.

Outing – Lunar Park/Milsons Point @ Lunar Park/Milsons Point
Sep 4 @ 5:30 pm – 9:00 pm

This outing will be instead of the presentation scheduled for the 5th September, ie outing on the 4th no meeting on the 5th

Meet at Luna Park at 5:30pm (sunset). Luna Park is at Broughton St, Milsons Point. The nearest train station is Milsons Point; and there is limited, metered street parking. Take shots of historic Luna Park, Milsons Point Wharf (which is under refurbishment), the Harbour Bridge and the city skyline at night. Take a 5-minute walk along the foreshore (the Peter Kingston Walkway) to the Lavender Bay Jetty and Wendy Whiteley’s Secret Garden (Lavender Street, Lavender Bay). Whiteley’s Garden is a NSW State Heritage protected area with Brett Whiteley’s home at 1 Walker Street as well the railway viaduct, Quibaree Park, part of Clark Park and the waters of Lavender Bay. Note: parts of Whiteley’s park are steep and should be walked with care. Walk north up the Lavender Bay stairs to Walker Street. Walk along Walker Street with its historic gothic building, Christ Church Lavender Bay. Continue along Walker Street, turn right at Middlemiss Street and travel to Arthur Street. Arthur Street takes you under the Pacific Highway-Bradfield Highway-Cahill Expressway and you can get shots of the skyline of the North Sydney CBD. Return to Middlemiss St and follow it to the roundabout. Cross the roundabout into Alfred Street with another historic building, the Chinese Christian Church at 100 Alfred St, Milsons Point. Follow Alfred Street to Milsons Point Train Station and cross over to Ennis Road. From here is it’s a short walk to Kirribilli Hotel 35 – 37 Broughton St Kirribilli. Meet at the Kirribilli Hotel at 8:00pm for a meal together. From here it is about a 10-minute walk back to Milson’s Point Station or Luna Park. If you want to kick on, however, visit the Lady Gowrie lookout (Kirribilli Ave, Kirribilli) and Kirribilli House: who knows, you might run into the Prime Minister or other dignitaries if they are staying overnight!

Bring your camera, fully charged battery and tripod.

Important please let me know if you intend to have dinner at the Hotel within the next week as I have to book a table.
