About Us

PHPC is a medium-sized club of around 40-50 members. Our members range in skill from enthusiastic novices to experienced photographers. The club has a few members who are judges.

We have a number of members who run the mentoring program for our newer members to learn the capabilities of their camera(s). We are large enough to support the growth of members but small enough to be a community, where all members can know each other. The club is here to challenge us to get the best from ourselves and our cameras

Night Photography Outing – Reminder

Reminder: There is no photography club meeting tonight (Monday 29 August) or next week (Monday 5 September). Instead, all members are invited to a special Night Photography Outing on Sunday 4 September. Photos from this outing can be used in the competition topic of “Night” (Monday 9 October.)

Dinner will be held after the Night Photography Outing. If you wish to join us, please call Chris Kenyon, President (0428 419 670) ASAP so he can book a table.

Details of the Outing: Meet at Luna Park at 5:30pm (sunset).  Luna Park is at Broughton St, Milsons Point.  The nearest train station is Milsons Point; and there is limited, metered street parking.  Take shots of historic Luna Park, Milsons Point Wharf (which is under refurbishment), the Harbour Bridge and the city skyline at night.  Take a 5-minute walk along the foreshore (the Peter Kingston Walkway) to the Lavender Bay Jetty and Wendy Whiteley’s Secret Garden (Lavender Street, Lavender Bay). Whiteley’s Garden is a NSW State Heritage protected area with Brett Whiteley’s home at 1 Walker Street as well the railway viaduct, Quibaree Park, part of Clark Park and the waters of Lavender Bay.  Note: parts of Whiteley’s park are steep and should be walked with care.  Walk north up the Lavender Bay stairs to Walker Street. Walk along Walker Street with its historic gothic building, Christ Church Lavender Bay.  Continue along Walker Street, turn right at Middlemiss Street and travel to Arthur Street.  Arthur Street takes you under the Pacific Highway-Bradfield Highway-Cahill Expressway and you can get shots of the skyline of the North Sydney CBD.  Return to Middlemiss St and follow it to the roundabout.  Cross the roundabout into Alfred Street with another historic building, the Chinese Christian Church at 100 Alfred St, Milsons Point.  Follow Alfred Street to Milsons Point Train Station and cross over to Ennis Road.  From here is it’s a short walk to Kirribilli Hotel 35 – 37 Broughton St Kirribilli.  Meet at the Kirribilli Hotel at 8:00pm for a meal together.  From here it is about a 10-minute walk back to Milson’s Point Station or Luna Park.  If you want to kick on, however, visit the Lady Gowrie lookout (Kirribilli Ave, Kirribilli) and Kirribilli House: who knows, you might run into the Prime Minister or other dignitaries if they are staying overnight!

Bring your camera, fully charged battery and tripod. Help on how to shoot at night will be provided, if needed.

Reminder – Be Creative Tonight

Tonight our Club will hear from a variety of members on how to make creative photographs. Presenters will discuss being creative using different techniques: the way you conceptualise and shoot a photo; using creative in-camera tips; and using creative post-processing techniques. These presentations will give practical suggestions on how to prepare for the next competition on 20th June: Creative. See you at 7:30pm for the meeting at 7:45pm!
