About Us

PHPC is a medium-sized club of around 40-50 members. Our members range in skill from enthusiastic novices to experienced photographers. The club has a few members who are judges.

We have a number of members who run the mentoring program for our newer members to learn the capabilities of their camera(s). We are large enough to support the growth of members but small enough to be a community, where all members can know each other. The club is here to challenge us to get the best from ourselves and our cameras

Canyoning Photography

Pennant Hills Club members are invited to an inspiring presentation on Canyoning Photography presented by the Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club Camera Club.

Canyoning photography – a unique form of Nature photography – requires fitness, wetsuits, and potentially abseiling down waterfalls whilst carrying your camera gear.

This presentation tells how three members of the Ryde-Eastwood Camera Club – two experienced canyoning photographers, and a novice in his seventies – prepared for, implemented and succeeded in their aim: to photograph sunbeams coming through the mist of the Rocky Creek Canyon in the Blue Mountains.  Their story and the photographs they captured were recently published in the magazine of The Royal Photographic Society in the UK.

This free presentation takes place at 7:30pm on Monday 9 October at the Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club, 117 Ryedale Road, West Ryde.

We thank the Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club Camera Club for their kind invitation.

(ii) Chris Kenyon will talk about making better prints.  (iii) If you have questions on how to operate your camera or take better photographs, we’ll provide answers or refer you to members who can help. (iv) Finally, a list of possible competition topics for 2024 will be circulated on the night – come and vote for your preferences.

LIGHTING AND PORTRAIT WORKSHOP – Monday 5 June

All members are invited to the annual Lighting and Portrait workshop to be held this Monday, 5 June at the Church Hall.

Unlike previous workshops, we’ll focus on professional-looking portraits and fashion shots.  So dress up for this workshop – smart casual, or more – and bring your camera!

There will be four different “studios” with different light setups so you can photograph different styles of portraits.

Phil Weir will also provide a short demonstration on how to light, pose and shoot a model.

In preparation for the workshop please familiarise yourself with:

If you can’t make it on the night, another way to take professional-looking portraits at home is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfOn-cr-Zuw (18 minutes).

Images from this workshop can be used in the Competition on 17 July, 2023 with the set subject of Portraits.

AGM 2022 – Item of General Business

As previously advised, the AGM of the Pennant Hills Photographic Club will take place at 7:45 pm on 21 November 2022 at the Uniting Church Hall. It will be followed by the “My Club” competition.

There will be one item of General Business: That members amend section 47 of the PHPC Constitution so the Club’s financial year ends on 30 September (rather than 30 June).

The Committee recommends this change to improve financial transparency to members. Currently, the financial report provided to members at the AGM in November is based on accounts as at 30 June. This means the financial information is almost five months old. If approved, the financial accounts provided to the AGM each November will be more timely.

For further information, please contact Max Pegler, Treasurer (treasurer@phpc.org.au) or Don Munro, Secretary.
