About Us

PHPC is a medium-sized club of around 40-50 members. Our members range in skill from enthusiastic novices to experienced photographers. The club has a few members who are judges.

We have a number of members who run the mentoring program for our newer members to learn the capabilities of their camera(s). We are large enough to support the growth of members but small enough to be a community, where all members can know each other. The club is here to challenge us to get the best from ourselves and our cameras

Presentation and Workshop on Still-Life Photography

Our own member, Don Dickins, will give a presentation on the topic of Still-Life Photography at our next meeting to be held at 7:45 pm on Monday 6th of May 2019.

We are familiar with still life photographs of food, flowers, bottles of wine, shoes, jewellery, appliances and equipment as used in advertising. Still-life photography, the depiction and arrangement, generally, of mainly inanimate objects, gives the photographer many challenges in the choice of the design elements used within the composition. Lighting, as always in photography, is part of that challenge. This presentation will help members prepare for the Competition Topic on Still Life on 17 June 2019.

The presentation will be followed by a hands-on workshop, so bring your cameras, tripod, and any still-life props you wish to photograph. We will provide lights, photo boxes and backdrops for you to use.

Competition 1903 Judging Postponed to 29th April 2019

Unfortunately a power outage this evening caused the judging of competition 1903 Open and Set “Creative” to be postponed.

The competition night will now be held at 7:45pm on Monday 29th April 2019 at the usual venue, the Uniting Church Hall in Pennant Hills. The club’s electronic online calendar has been adjusted to reflect the new date.

No changes to entries submitted will be permitted and the competition will remain locked.

The planned outing to Hyde Park on the 29th of April has been cancelled, but may be held on another night subject to determination by the Committee.

Our apologies for the inconvenience caused to all members and the judge. We look forward to seeing you all on the 29th of April.

Some Clarifications on Competition Entries

Tomorrow night is judging for our current competition Open and Set Topic “Creative”. We have a large number of entries and the creative juices of club members have obviously flowed. Good to see and I am sure you will be equally enthralled by the entries when you see them.

Just a couple of points regarding entering competitions:

  1. Closing time – is usually midnight on Saturday the weekend before judging night. The site says 12am on Sunday is the closing time, which is the same time as midnight on Saturday. Noon on Sunday is 12pm and is after the deadline.  There has unfortunately been some confusion about the closing time on this and previous competitions.
  2. This competition has revealed a formerly unknown behaviour of the MyPhotoClub image upload. The image must be larger than
1024 x 768 pixels up to a maximum of 1920 x 1200 pixels. That is, the image has to be within the “just right” range. Images too large will not be uploaded. Images that are too small may upload but will not display properly.

Thank you all for your continuing support of the club and our competitions. See you tomorrow night.

Competition 1903 – Open & Set “Creative” Closes Soon

Members are reminded to submit their entries for our next competition, to be held on Monday 15th April 2019. Entries close at midnight on Saturday the 13th April.

The Set topic definition is: “Images displaying an original, inventive or striking effect created in camera and/or by an editing program. The image must show evidence of a photographic image taken by the entrant.”

Please ensure that you submit entries in good time, allowing time to recover from mistakes and the occasional system glitch and that you have correctly selected the intended media (Colour Print, Monochrome Print, Small Print, or Digital Image) and topic (Open or Set) categories.

Tutorial videos for using the MyPhotoClub site are posted here.

You may receive another system-generated reminder in a day or two.

We look forward to seeing your Open and Creative entries!

Wollongong Camera Club 75th Anniversary Exhibition

Wollongong Camera Club was established in April 1944 by a band of like minded enthusiasts with a desire to learn and share the photographic experience. The Club has maintained a strong following and has been meeting regularly since then.

The club is celebrating their 75th Anniversary with the “75 YEARS THROUGH THE LENS” Exhibition which will run from 2nd April to 26th May, 2019 at the Wollongong Art Gallery. It should be well worth the trip to view, as well as enjoying the photogenic trip to Wollongong.
