About Us

PHPC is a medium-sized club of around 40-50 members. Our members range in skill from enthusiastic novices to experienced photographers. The club has a few members who are judges.

We have a number of members who run the mentoring program for our newer members to learn the capabilities of their camera(s). We are large enough to support the growth of members but small enough to be a community, where all members can know each other. The club is here to challenge us to get the best from ourselves and our cameras

Call for Interest – Topic: Intentional Camera Movement Zoom Presentation

At Monday nights meeting we mentioned the possibility of a Zoom Presentation on Intentional Camera Movement on Monday 31st July at 7.45pm. You would be logging in from your own computer at home.

The guest speaker we are proposing is https://christopherweeks.com/ . He is a Canadian photographer and speaker who specialises in fine art images using Intentional Camera Movement, Multiple Exposure ICM and Urban Abstractions. As a frequent speaker, presenter and workshop facilitator, he is passionate about sharing the many ways of creating images that can reveal the world around us from a completely new perspective.

Our special trophy competition on the third Monday in August is Intentional Camera Movement and is Set Only.

As a committee we are always looking after the expenditure of the club as best as we can to ensure that we can provide lots of activities to help and develop your photography and have fun at the same time within a designated budget. We are aware that many of you will be interested but many others will not be.

The cost of this presenter to the club is $150.

If we proceed we need to know that this presentation will be for the benefit of the greater number of members.

Can you please text Janne on 0411 424 945 and advise if you would log into this presentation if we were to run it on Monday 31st July. A decision will be made at our committee meeting next Monday 26th June. We will need to know before then.

Regards

Janne

Portfolio Project

You may remember earlier in the year we organised a Portfolio Project under the guidance of Elaine & Jon.

We had a good response and those people who registered their interest will be meeting for the initial get together tomorrow night May 22nd at Elaine & Jon’s house, at 7.30pm.

At this meeting we will:
* Hear from Elaine about what other clubs did to develop portfolios of
images
* Discuss your initial ideas of a theme for your portfolio.  If you have
no ideas at the moment, no worries – we will help you develop some
* If you have started a portfolio, bring some 4×6 or larger images to
show and discuss.  Feedback from others is always helpful
* Work out the practicalities of starting your project, meeting each
month at someone’s place to share progress, etc.

Janne will also discuss the possibility – if you agree – to publish some
images in a book as part of the Club’s 50th Anniversary in 2025.

Finally, feel free to bring some some snacks or drinks to the first
meeting – conviviality supports creativity!

If you would like to come along and haven’t been advised yet, please message Janne on 0411 424 945 and she will add you to the list and send you the details of Elaine & Jon’s address.

Kind regards

GDT Nature Photographer of the Year 2023

I received a link for the results for this competition on Facebook this week.

https://www.gdtfoto.de/seiten/gdt-naturfotograf-des-jahres-results-2023.html?g=gallery-big-1025587&slide=9

If you love Nature Photography these images are truly inspirational. I thought for sure that they must have different rules for Nature Photography than the rest of us but on looking them up, they are just the same.

Hope you enjoy the images.

Minimalism Presentation and Workshop, Monday 3rd April

In preparation for our Competition 4 Set Subject Minimalism on the 15th May we are having a presentation and workshop, this Monday night, 3rd April at 7.45pm at Pennant Hills.

The Minimalism presentation has been put together by Don Monroe for the exclusive use of the NSW Federation of Camera Clubs and will be presented by Janne.

This very informative presentation provides an excellent understanding of the different types of Minimalism with many amazing examples, some of which you will probably recognise.

The second half is a practical workshop where you will get the opportunity to put the presentation into practice.

For this you will need to bring along a camera of any type, including mobile phone cameras.

Looking forward to seeing you on Monday night for this informative and fun presentation.

Making a Great Travel Book with Peter Eastway

As part of the members only “Learn” program, the APS is running a free on-line workshop for Members Only on Tuesday 4th April at 7pm on how To Make a Great Travel Book. Many of us probably have many photobooks that we have already made. Each of us with their own style. But, there is always something new to learn from other people’s expertise and knowledge.

Whether you want to enter the APS Photo Book Awards or just create a masterpiece for personal use, Peter Eastway’s Zoom talk on ‘Making A Great Travel Photo Book’ will take you step by step through the book production process, including options that don’t require specialist knowledge of complicated design programs.

Peter is the editor of Better Photography Magazine, a professional photographer for too many years for him to remember, and a two-times winner of the AIPP’s Photo Book of the Year Award. You can check out his current book, The New Tradition (a travel book with a difference) on his website (www.betterphotography.com/online-shop/new-trad-book).

Here is the link. You will need to log in to your APS account.
