About Us

PHPC is a medium-sized club of around 40-50 members. Our members range in skill from enthusiastic novices to experienced photographers. The club has a few members who are judges.

We have a number of members who run the mentoring program for our newer members to learn the capabilities of their camera(s). We are large enough to support the growth of members but small enough to be a community, where all members can know each other. The club is here to challenge us to get the best from ourselves and our cameras

STEVE McCURRY ‘ICONS’ EXHIBITION

Back in the mid 1980’s I used to subscribe to National Geographic. I will never forget opening the envelope with the edition that featured Steve McCurry’s ‘Afghan Girl’. If any one photograph inspired me into the world of photography it was that photograph. That one image captured the harsh reality of Sharbat Gula’s life in an refugee camp on the Afghan-Pakistan Border. I kept the magazine for about 20 years and finally (perhaps foolishly) threw it out whilst moving homes.

Steve McCurry went on to become one of the world’s most renowned photographers and has worked for many decades photographing the human element of conflicts, vanishing cultures, ancient traditions and much more.

His ‘ICONS’ exhibition of over 100 large-format photographs taken over the last 30 years is coming to Sydney from April 12, at Pier 2/3, Walsh Bay, Sydney.

Presentation: Landscape and Aerial Photography

Our Presentation on the 7th November is by the very talented photographer, Mieke Boynton. It will be run on-line so you will be able to sit around your computer at home with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. I will send the log in details on an email.

Monday 7th November 2022

Time: 7:45pm

Here are the details of the presentation and Mieke’s bio:

Landscape and Aerial Photography” is an educational and engaging presentation by Internationally-acclaimed landscape photographer Mieke Boynton. In 2008, Mieke travelled to the rugged and remote Kimberley region of Western Australia and promptly fell in love with the landscape. She took up photography as a means to share her amazement with family and friends, and quickly caught the photography “bug.” Mieke became a full time professional photographer in 2018 and that same year, was named “Victorian Travel Photographer of the Year” by the Australian Institute of Professional Photography. In 2019, she was awarded the title of AIPP Victorian Landscape Photographer of the Year. She is the first Australian and first woman ever to win the renowned Epson International Pano Awards, with three of her abstract aerial photographs receiving Gold Awards. This year, she achieved her Masters distinction with the prestigious Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique – one of only 5 successful applicants world-wide. Mieke now lives in the beautiful alpine township of Bright in Victoria. She regularly exhibits her work and thoroughly enjoys teaching photography through workshops. Her “Landscape and Aerial Photography” presentation begins with a very brief explanation of her background, and then – through audience interaction – highlights a series of maximum-impact elements of Landscape Photography in an engaging and entertaining way. The advice given is valuable for photographers at all levels. She also presents a selection of her aerial photographs and provides some useful advice for members if they wish to try their hand at this genre. There are plenty of opportunities for discussion and questions too!  www.miekeboynton.com

Mieke became a full time professional landscape photographer in 2018. That same year, she was named “Victorian Travel Photographer of the Year” by the Australian Institute of Professional Photography and in 2019, she was awarded the title of AIPP Victorian Landscape Photographer of the Year.
