About Us

PHPC is a medium-sized club of around 40-50 members. Our members range in skill from enthusiastic novices to experienced photographers. The club has a few members who are judges.

We have a number of members who run the mentoring program for our newer members to learn the capabilities of their camera(s). We are large enough to support the growth of members but small enough to be a community, where all members can know each other. The club is here to challenge us to get the best from ourselves and our cameras

FCC 2018 Interclub Competition

The NSW Federation of Camera Clubs (FCC) holds an annual Interclub competition which our Club has been invited to enter.  The Committee has selected and entered the following photos into the Interclub competition, which closed last Friday, the 14th of September 2018.  An exhibition of the Interclub entries will be held at the St George Leagues Club on the 21st of October 2018, and the awards announced on that date.  Congratulations to the authors of the photos that were selected for entry, and we hope they are judged favourably.

The FCC also holds an annual TopShot competition which is an individual competition open to all members of camera clubs that belong to the FCC, which includes our Club.  The 2018 Top Shot Competition has already been held.  You can see the FCC 2018 Top Shot entry catalogue here.

Reminder – Competition 1808 Open and Set “Soft Focus” Closes Very Soon

A reminder to all members that Competition 1808, which is Open and Set will close at midnight on Saturday 15th September 2018. The Set topic is “Soft Focus – An image which has been deliberately blurred by controlling depth of field or by use of blurring filters on the camera during capture”.  For clarity, “on the camera during capture” means that images that have been de-focused using post-capture techniques, for example, using Photoshop Filters, run the risk of rejection.  The Committee will be scrutinising the photos presented as a prelude to judging for adherence to the rules. Please be present early enough so the Committee can discuss photos with you before such decisions are made.  Any questions or issues should be raised with the Committee on the evening of judging so they can be respectfully considered and effectively addressed.

If you have not done so already, please prepare your photos, enter them on the MyPhotoClub website (taking care that you select the correct category and media), print your labels and attach them to the back of the prints. It is good practice to print your labels immediately after submitting your entry as you cannot print them after the competition closes. A good idea is to “Print to PDF” and save the file for when you need it and you can then print it when and as often as needed.

Instructions for entering a competition are on the Club Documents page and at this link: PHPC MyPhotoClub Instruction – Entering a Competition

As usual, if you have any difficulties or questions, please contact the Competition Secretary, Tony Strasser on 0408-406-519 or at competition@phpc.org.au.

Good luck with your entries! See you at the judging on the evening of the 17th September 2018

Website Developments

A few changes have been made to our MyPhotoClub website we would like to make you aware of.

Firstly our old website at www.phpc.org.au has been fully decommissioned.  Typing in the old URL in your web browser will now take you directly to our site on MyPhotoClub.  We have retained a copy of the old website in the archive if anyone needs information from it. Just contact the webmaster (webmaster@phpc.org.au).

Secondly, your personal profile page has been revised.  It now shows information on your contact details, over which you have full privacy control; your photographic interests; and the photos you have entered in the Club’s (and other MyPhotoClub clubs’) competitions. To access your profile, click on the purple button that says “Hi your-name” when you log in.

Please take a moment to review your profile and your privacy settings to ensure the information is correct.  There are edit buttons on each of the sections which will allow you to modify your information (except for your profile photo, which is still pending). Don’t forget to click the “Update Details” button when finished!  We notice a few members’ profiles are largely blank, and occasionally email addresses and other details change, so please update your information.  This helps us to maintain our member register and to be able to contact you should the need arise.

PHPC MyPhotoClub Instruction – Viewing Completed Competitions

Some feedback to members concerning entering competitions:

  1. Please check the competition rules to be sure your entries comply. Unfortunately, some otherwise good photographs were rejected because they did not adhere to the Photo Rally rules.
  2. A reminder that print labels should be printed (or saved as a PDF file) when entries are submitted. It is not possible to print labels after the competition has closed.

Congratulations to all who participated in the Photo Rally and who entered their work in the competition.

Reminder – Competition 1807 Photo Rally Closes Very Soon

A reminder to all members that Competition 1807, which is in a Set category only (no Open category), will close at midnight on Saturday 18th August 2018. The Set topic is “Photo Rally – Waverton Peninsula and Balls Head”.  Photos entered must have been taken in accordance with the PHPC Photo Rally 2018 Rules.  The Committee will be scrutinising the photos presented as a prelude to judging for adherence to these rules.

If you have not done so already, please prepare your photos, enter them on the MyPhotoClub website, print your labels and attach them to the back of the prints.

Good luck with your entries! See you at the judging on the evening of the 20th August 2018

Photo Rally Update

We have just been advised that the MV Baragoola, the former Manly ferry that was built in 1922, and which those members that participated on Saturday 21st July 2018 visited, will now open to the public on Sundays between noon and 4pm (a small donation, e.g. a gold coin, would be appreciated). So if you missed the visit, or want to go again, these open periods are your opportunity.  The ferry has an interesting history and is a good photography subject.

Entry onto the MV Baragoola can be made via the Balls Head end of Tunnel 2 located beneath the coal loader platform at The Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability which is on the western side of the Waverton Peninsula and which is within the permitted boundary of the PHPC Rally. The Photo Rally rules are here: PHPC Photo Rally 2018

Important! Please note that not all areas on the Baragoola are safe and that strict guidelines are enforced to ensure the safety of the public.

This note is for information only and members should be aware that PHPC will not accept any liability for personal injury whilst on board the vessel.

Competition 1806 Results Are Available

Dear Members,

The results of Competition 1806 (Open & Set – Urban Landscape) are now available for you to see.  The instructions for viewing competition images and results can be viewed by clicking on the following link. They are also on the Club Documents Page.

PHPC MyPhotoClub Instruction – Viewing Completed Competitions

Some feedback to members concerning entering competitions:

  1. Once again, no more than two (2) entries of any media type (i.e. Colour Prints, Mono Prints, Digital Images, Small Prints, regardless of whether they are Open or Set subject) are permitted in a single competition. Excess entries will be disqualified. The wording in the Comp Rules and Categories V4 2018 has been updated to hopefully leave no doubt.
  2. Please check your on-line entries to be sure they are as you intended.  If entries are not presented on the competition night in the category / subject they were entered in, they are liable to be disqualified.  Such incidents also confuse the judging and marking process terribly.

Well done to all entrants in contributing to another interesting and high-quality competition.
